«In spite of various attempts by the Presidency to present compromise proposals in order to meet delegations’ concerns, it was not possible to attain the qualified majority needed to reach political agreement on a draft directive establishing a framework for the protection of soil». Press Release, 2842nd Council meeting ENVIRONMENT (Brussels, 20 December 2007)

Dirrefently from air and water that moves easily from one country to another and are protected by international laws, soil is still only considered at a national level. After a research with a lawyer office on the history of European as well as international laws on soil protection, it was stricking to find out that despite lengthy negotiations within the European Commision on creating a framework for the protection of soil, Europe as well as the Wolrd still lacks a set of laws to address and protect the soil. A sentence from the press release of the European parliament was printed on a flag transformed into a stripe accoumulating on the floor. Despite infinite meetings and words there was no political will in protecting the soil from further exploitation and pollution.
